Crash & Burn video shoot

Friday, 2nd March 07

Crash & Burn was captured on film during the weekend and what a day it was. Around 50 wonderful people turned up to partake in what was to be an exceptional shoot.

From Stunt men and Women to Armourers and Make-up & CGI artists to fully kitted soldiers, everyone got involved and gave it everything.

The Decoders (Jon, Martin, Blake and Justin) and on behalf of Robertson-Cook Productions (Darren and Louise Producer / Director team extraordinaire) we would like to thank you ALL for giving up so much to come and help us during this amazing day.

If you are interested in future projects please email us your details if we have not got them already, and we will add you to our database.

The Decoders Salute you all!!!

Cellophane Veil – writing/recording diary

Thursday, 7th December 06

Blake and Jon first met up with Martin in summer 2004, when he recorded and produced a five track EP for them.

This included the songs “Humble” and “All Alone” and the band were using the name Emersion at this time.

Less than a year later “Emersion” had disbanded and so the three of them got together to write and record a full albums worth of material, this began in November 2005.

Between November 2005 and March 2006 the three members wrote 14 songs and also began to record the basic backing tracks, which would become the “Cellophane Veil” album.

Two of these initial ideas became “Dreams” and “State of mine” though they would be almost the last of the songs on the album to be finished!

During April/May and June, all the main Drums, Bass and Guitars were recorded , either at Jon’s self constructed Drum “room” or at Martin’s “Key Studios” at his home.

Jon recorded with a combination of live kit and also playing his home made “mesh head” Kit, which was used to trigger real drum samples from the BFD Drum plug-in.

Bass was recorded using either the Tech21 Bass Driver/Di or a Peavey TB Raxx valve preamp, through a Mackie 8 Buss desk.

All the guitars were recorded using either a Marshall JMP-1, a Matamp C7 valve amp or a home made 5 watt valve amp, SE-5a.

Also during this time, Blake’s guide vocals were being constantly updated to “master” vocal takes ( in between a couple of bouts of the flu! )

There was a small break in the process throughout July and August, when other commitments kept me away from the production, but some time away from the tracks kept things “fresh”.

September/October, was spent finishing all the details and overdubs of top line guitars etc, followed by three weeks of mixing and mastering the finished tracks, for those who are interested, this was done using Logic Pro7 recording software on a G5 mac and extensive use of Universal Audio plug-ins.

Any keyboard parts were recorded using a Korg Trinity and various plug-ins from Sampletank , Spectrasonics and Auturia software companies.

We spent a week away from the masters, before finally making any last minute adjustments/fixes to the mixes.

Although this whole process was spread across about 11 months, it probably took around 5 “solid” months of work to complete.
